Love After Love is arguably one of the best poems written by Derek Walcott. This poem focuses so much on one's rediscovery of self. Many times in our lives we become so consumed with our daily tasks, responsibilities and relationships that we tend to lose our identities. We begin to take less care of ourselves and a result we suffer.

Love After Love reminds us that we are not to lose sight of our individuality as it is that thing that makes us uniquely us. Walcott reminds us that we should be giving ourselves the same amount of love, care and attention that we dispense to others, so that when we sit down to 'feast on our lives', we can be pleased with what we see.
