BIBLE STUDY

The second exercise we need to practise in order to strengthen our spiritual core is Bible Study. Now Bible Study is more than just merely reading the words on the pages and reciting Scripture. It is about taking the time to do a deep dive into who God is and how He manifested Himself on earth. The Bible is literally “God-breathed” (2 Timothy 3:16).  In other words, it is God’s very words to us. It is our way to know him more intimately.

For example, we all have relationships with spouses, siblings, parents, friends. If we are all close to them then we know what makes them tick, we know their likes and dislikes, personal beliefs and convictions and then we act accordingly. When we study the Bible, it is an opportunity for us  to know what pleases and displeases God and why He gave us these commands, laws, life lessons and stories. There are so many questions that people have asked throughout the ages and have been answered for us in the Scripture. But how will we know that if we don’t study it? Moreover, Bible study helps us to distinguish between the real and fake. How are you going to live a life of Christ but don’t know what that means or entails? We have to take that into consideration, especially now that the Gospel of Christ has been perverted and corrupted with false doctrines and teaching for selfish personal gain.

In Ephesians 6:10-18 we are warned to beseeched to adorn ourselves with the armor of God so that we can take our stand against the devil’s schemes. The scripture describes the different parts of the armor needed such as belt, footwear, breastplate, shield and helmet. The scripture also says we are to take up the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Do you notice that while all the other areas of the armour are for protection, the sword is a weapon?  What does that tell us? God has given us his word for us to fight as the same passage of scripture reminds us that “our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms”. So how then are we going to fight spiritually if we don’t know God’s words?
